Eighth Grade finished their study of World War II with a visit from decorated WWII Veteran Eugene Polinsky.
Mr. Polinsky along with several other men flew night operations from a then secret base in England known only as Station 179 (Harrington). The base was located about ten miles west of Kettering, Northamptonshire. They shared the base with two other bomb groups. He was a navigator in this Air Force special operations group; the 492nd/801st Bomb Group known as the “Carpetbaggers. Mr. Polinsky is the only surviving member of his crew.
The program was the brainchild of Eighth Grader Ethan W., a relative of Mr. Polinsky. Ethan worked with his History Teacher, Ms. Portia Hinshaw, to invite Mr. Polinsky and members of his family to visit TPS to speak to the students about his experiences during the war.
