Cooking

The cooking program will be held on Mondays and will be open to students in 1st-3rd grade. Each day we will learn a new cooking skill and prepare something that students will consume at the end of class, or bring home if they choose to do so. Students will leave the program with a small individualized cookbook that they will decorate and add recipes to. This program will teach your kids the basic math of measuring, along with fun, safe and healthy ways to prepare food!

Does your child love creating arts and crafts using a variety of materials? When children participate in arts and crafts they develop their own individual craftsmanship. As a child creates, they have begun the process of communicating visually. This enrichment program will help your child follow directions, further develop their find motor skills, brainstorm ideas, collaborate with their peers and use their problem solving skills. The crafts planned for this enrichment program are structured activities with specific goals in mind. Some of the project ideas for this session include: Ink and Watercolor Paper Weaving, Aztec Inspired Sun and Moon Metal Tooling, Monochromatic Tape Resist Paintings, and Clay Mexican Sugar Skull Ornaments.

“Good Morning, Tuxedo Park!”

Students will work together to produces, direct, write, and star in a TV production that will highlight trending current events. The program will be targeting students entering Grades 4 and 5. Mr. Scecina’s team of fantastic students found it to be a hit last year, and they’re all excited to continue forward with new members this year! “Good Morning, Tuxedo Park!” will reinforce reading, writing, research, and performance skills.

Conversational Spanish

Mrs. Schenkman is a certified teacher and has enjoyed a variety of teaching experiences. She will be using an interactive approach to teach conversational Spanish and basic vocabulary through a variety of songs and “hands on” activities.

Mission of class: Familiarize students with techniques and and aesthetics of digital and (light) film photography through various presentations and activities.

Lessons:
·      Review landscape, portraiture, point-of-view, abstract, still life, and studio lighting
Technical-

·      POV, Framing, Lighting, Composition, Aesthetic

Activities-

·      Polaroid activity- one student takes a polaroid photograph, passes it to another student who has to take a polaroid in reaction to the last and so on.

·      Light Painting- teach students to use a slow shutter speed, “paint” with light in the dark to spell words, create light circles, etc.

·      Alphabet – Pair up and do a scavenger hunt for objects that look like letters, try and find the whole alphabet.

·      Understand the difference between candid or planned photographs

·      Studio Lighting- Set up a “studio” with a backdrop and with soft-box lights

Critiques- in more advanced classes we can do little mini critiques where we discuss the work of each student.

Jewelry Making with Mrs. Moskalik

Does your child love to create their own jewelry or gifts for their friends and family? If this sounds like your child then this enrichment program is for them. Your child will make something that expresses their creativity and build friendships with other creative minds. Project ideas for this session include: Decoupage Jewelry Boxes, Lanyard Bracelets and Keychains, Handmade Beads, Friendship Bracelets and Necklaces.

Wellness

Through yoga, gardening, and nature walks, we will learn about mindfulness, nutrition, and the culinary uses of our local edible plants. This acquired knowledge will all be turned into personal wellness tools. With these hands - on approach to learning, the goal is to foster integrity by building respect and compassion for ourselves, others, and the world around us. Character development has never been so fun!

Project ideas for this session include: Nature Weavings, Birdhouses, Wind Catchers, Printmaking with Leaves and Flowers, and Nature Walk Picture Frames.
