Frequently Asked Questions
- Who Is Eligible To Compete For A Scholarship?
Any new student entering TPS in fourth grade through eighth grade for the 2018/2019 school year. The program is offered exclusively to children and grandchildren of a Veteran as determined by the state of New York or the children of an active miltiary or reserve component parent or First Responder.
What Is The Amount Of The Scholarship?
25% of the grade level tuition.
- Is This A One-Time Award?
No. Assuming that a Veteran/First Responder Scholar continues to thrive in the TPS environment by fulfilling academic and extra-curricular expectations, the Scholarship will be extended each year through graduation.
- Is Re-Application Required Each Year For A Student Who Receives A Veteran/First Responder Scholarship?
- How Will Scholarship Recipients Be Selected?
Scholarship recipients will be selected on the basis of multiple criteria, including a written exam. While an exemplary academic record is certainly important, so are strong recommendations from teachers, plus demonstrated involvement and accomplishment in athletics, in the arts and/or service to the community. Commitment to learning and habits that show engagement with school and community are encouraged for all students at TPS. A scholarship applicant will be evaluated with these values in mind.
- How Do I Apply For The Scholarship?
Call 845-351-4737 or fill out a contact form and add "veterans scholarship or first responder scholarship" to the comments. You can also schedule a campus visit at that time.
- Is Applying For The Scholarship The Same As Applying For Admission To TPS?
We encourage you to know as much as possible about the program. The only merit scholarship application requirement (beyond completing our regular application process) asks that you inform our office that you would like to be included in the pool of merit applications.
- What Is The Scholarship Application Deadline?
For the two 2019-2020 scholarships, applications submitted by July 1, 2019 will be considered for the 2019-2020 school year.
- Can Scholarship Recipients Also Receive Need-Based Financial Assistance?
Yes. Acceptance of a Merit Scholarship does not eliminate a family from consideration for need-based assistance. Because a Scholarship is based on merit, the amount of a Scholarship will not change in the event that need-based financial assistance is also awarded. Families from a broad range of incomes apply to TPS. Any prospective family is encouraged to apply.
