Tuxedo Park School’s commitment to character education has long helped our students live our motto: “Be Kind, Be Fair, Be Responsible” in and out of the classroom. Character education at TPS is intentional. Teaching character to our students is part of who we are. Our dedicated character education program strives to create a safe, supportive, and welcoming learning environment.
Woven Into Our Fabric
Regular discussions and activities regarding character take place during morning meetings, advisory sessions, buddy class gatherings, and are embedded within academic classes. These activities are designed to create opportunities for authentic sharing and genuine connection.
Character Matters
Smaller daily interactions, such as a morning handshake with school leaders and cross-grade family style lunches to student-led assemblies and local and global community service efforts, are just a few ways that TPS students learn the elements of good character.
Every student from Pre-K through 9th-grade engages in service work. Through in-school and out-of-school projects, students learn the importance of their role and impact in the immediate and greater community in which they exist.
Primary School
Primary School's service work is focused on helping the immediate TPS community. Pre-K works on keeping their classroom clean, taking care of the plants, and one another. Kindergarten through Grade 3 initiatives include a school-wide Post Office fundraiser for an organization of their choosing, teaching the importance of recycling, cleaning up flower beds, and more.
Middle School
Middle School extends their service to the local community and surrounding areas. They do a number of drives to help fulfill local food and supply needs, are penpals with pediatric cancer patients, design bowls for the Empty Bowl Project, construct bird houses for indigenous bird species, and sew blankets for Project Linus.
Upper School
Upper School's service work begins at home and extends to the local and global community. They clear local hiking trails, do a Tick survey to inform Tuxedo residents, and greet buddies at morning arrival. They volunteer with the Sloatsburg Food Pantry, help with a Special Olympics Ski Race, and have an active partnership with The Aale School in Nepal, through United World Schools. Their reach is wide yet thorough.
