Welcome to our fun and creative Clay Class for kids! In this hands-on class, young artists will explore the exciting world of clay by shaping, molding, and sculpting their very own masterpieces. With easy-to-follow guidance, children will learn basic clay techniques, such as rolling, pinching, and coiling, while creating a range of items, from cute animals to colorful decorations. This class encourages imagination and creativity, helping kids develop fine motor skills and express themselves through art. Whether they're beginners or already have some experience, each child will leave with a unique creation and a sense of accomplishment!

Join our Introduction to Chess Class, where we offer engaging and age-appropriate chess lessons to cater to students of all skill levels. Our program covers the fundamentals, openings, and strategic thinking. We start with a free play session to gauge familiarity and comfort with chess, progressively introducing skills and encouraging their application in gameplay. We spice things up with variant chess games to maintain enthusiasm and keep the playfulness alive. We work closely with your child throughout the class to help them internalize the concepts and rules of chess. Whether they're total beginners or looking to advance their skills, students will leave with newfound knowledge and a deep passion for the game of chess.

Does your child have a passion for cooking? Are they ready to experience new foods and expand their little palettes? Our students will be engaged as they discover how to prepare delicious international and American dishes safely and skillfully. Our mini chefs will enjoy exploring diverse recipes from Africa, Asia, Europe, and North and South America, while learning food prep tips and tricks they can use throughout their lives. During our sessions, your child will play kids' games from other countries, learn food terms from around the world, and receive simple recipes they can use at home. This course is tailored for younger students and focuses on microwave cooking. Recipes include Italian Lasagna, Ghanaian Fufu Dumplings, Japanese Onigiri (Rice Balls), Mexican Quesadilla and Salsa, American Mug Cake, Chinese Chaofan, and French Fondue.

Mini Maestros offers students a joyful and enriching opportunity to explore music in a hands-on, age-appropriate, and engaging setting. This program nurtures creativity, develops foundational music skills, and builds confidence - all while having lots of fun! Children will be exposed to various instruments, musical fundamentals (such as rhythm, melody, pitch, etc.), and global music appreciation as we discover songs and traditions from cultures around the world.

Students will learn how to create rich harmonies, explore rhythm and vocal percussion, and perform both classic and contemporary pop songs, all without instruments(maybe some percussion for the littles). Through fun warm-ups, group rehearsals, and performance coaching, singers will build confidence, strengthen musical ears, and develop teamwork skills.

You don't need any prior experience, just enthusiasm and a willingness to sing in front of others. The program will culminate in a live performance for families (possibly in the Spring).

Ms. Kilburg spent 2 years at the Aaron Copland School of Music for voice before transferring out to pursue a BS in Physics. She is an avid singer and believes the love of music should be a part of every child's education.

Blast off into coding! In this after-school program, students will learn to build their very own Space Invaders–style video game using Python and the Pygame library. Along the way, they’ll discover how to animate sprites, track player movement, handle collisions, and design exciting gameplay features.

No prior experience is needed; students will learn the basics of coding step by step and end the session with a fully playable game they created themselves. This hands-on program blends creativity, problem-solving, and fundamental coding skills that can lead to endless possibilities in game design and computer science.

Ms. Kilburg holds multiple graduate degrees in Physics and Chemistry and is the lead author of numerous peer-reviewed publications in Computational Chemistry and Physics. She has developed software used in several widely adopted Molecular Dynamics programs.

FIRST® LEGO® League introduces science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) to children through fun, exciting hands-on learning. Participants gain real-world problem solving experience through a guided, global robotics program, helping today's students and teachers build a better future together. It utilizes Lego Education Spike PRIME kits and coding based on Scratch.

The school's FLL teams will be made up of 4th through 9th Graders. Each team is made up of 4 or 5 students. The FLL season begins in August with the introduction of the year's "game" and challenges. We will have a few practices before the school year begins to introduce the team members to the kits and build the game challenges. We hope to organize a few robotics teams based on similar age and experience level with robotics and coding. Competitions typically take place in January and February.

In this class, students learn to transform lyrics and words into living stories by exploring what lies beyond the script or score. We will analyze character motivation, background, and context. Each participant will select a song or monologue to uncover the unique interpretation which will set their own performance apart. With guided coaching, students practice their acting skills by singing their lyrics or delving into what lies between the lines- bringing true intention to every word. 

Individualized feedback and peer performances foster a supportive environment where students will sharpen performance skills, build confidence and elevate their stage presence, readying them not only for the upcoming school musical, but for the professional stage.

We are thrilled to announce another season of the MATHCOUNTS enrichment program as part of our after-school offerings!

MATHCOUNTS is a prestigious and highly competitive math competition designed for motivated 6th-8th grade students. This program engages middle schoolers across the U.S., helping them build confidence and foster a positive attitude toward math and problem-solving. As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, MATHCOUNTS reaches hundreds of thousands of students annually, emphasizing that learning math can be enjoyable and rewarding.

This age is a pivotal time to inspire a love for math. Through MATHCOUNTS, students will enhance their problem-solving skills and develop a mindset that embraces complex challenges—setting the stage for greater academic and career opportunities in the future.

The program, led by Ms. Masefield, promises to be both fun and engaging, yet the challenge level requires focus and dedication. Please note that students will be accountable for upholding our standard code of conduct throughout the enrichment course. We can't wait to see our students thrive in this exciting new opportunity!

In addition to classes, there are competitions in the winter, starting with the school level, and then moving to the chapter, state, and national levels. (Dates/Location TBD)
